Herpes has many possible symptoms and it can be different depending on which other herpes viruses live in you already (everyone in the US has between 2-6 types of herpes viruses already, but not nearly everyone has genital herpes virus)! If you have been sleeping with your new boyfriend already, there is a good chance he is already infected, so he should be tested too! If you are both infected, there is no harm in having sex! The bumps should go away, but from what you are telling me (that they never went away), it could be more like genital warts, which is HPV and they test for that every time you get a PAP smear! There are false negatives with that test, but its rarer than with some other STD tests!
